DG3 NA Conserves Energy With Lighting Upgrade

Jersey City, New Jersey, November 11, 2009 – DG3 North America, Inc., a leading provider of integrated print and electronic communications solutions, announced today that it has replaced the lighting throughout its entire 200,000 square foot facility with industry-leading viewing standard 5000 kelvin lighting that draws nearly 30% fewer kilowatts per day than the previously standard factory lighting.

Each day the new lighting systems consume 1,368 fewer kilowatts than the prior systems. The savings amount to a total reduction in consumption of 501,000 kilowatts per year, enough to power 535 homes each day based on US Department of Energy statistics. This upgrade is in addition to DG3’s wind power renewable energy purchase for the 200,000 square foot facility.

The Kelvin scale and the kelvin are named after the British physicist and engineer William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin. The kelvin is often used to measure the color temperature of light sources. The Kelvin scale ranges from 2000k to 10000k. Industry experts consider 5000k to be optimal for print viewing, which approximates noon-time daylight with sun overhead and a clear sky.

Peter Manetakis, DG3’s Vice President of Engineering commented, “Through modern technology we are able to deliver two valuable benefits in one initiative. First, we can reduce power consumption to benefit the environment. Next, we are improving the viewing experience and color accuracy in our press room by delivering the optimal industry standard viewing environment.”

Green Committee Chairperson Nancy Schueneman continued “DG3 looks to make these types of reinforcing investments each day and there are many more to consider. We will continue to innovate in the area of sustainability to meet the growing demands of the marketplace to be as environmentally friendly as practical.”
