CGI North America, Inc. Installs Komori Heat Set Web and Sheetfed Presses

CGI North America, Inc., a leading communications-outsourcing firm expands its production capabilities and capacity.

Jersey City, New Jersey April 20th 2007: CGI North America, Inc., a member of The CGI Group, a leading global provider of worldwide print and communications services, announced today that it has completed the installation of two new Komori printing presses.

CGI has invested significantly over the past twelve months to acquire new pre-press, press and bindery equipment. The Komori acquisitions are the latest in an effort to provide increase capabilities, higher levels of service, improved quality and advanced technology to CGI’s clients.

CGI is one of only two printing companies in the United States to begin operating the Komori System 38S. This six-color 16-page heatset web press prints 60,000 sheets per hour. Other key features of both presses include computerized make-ready capabilities that significantly shorten make-ready time; closed-loop color control systems for flexible and faster color control and a consistent print quality. These features are important for satisfying the varied requirements of the markets the company serves.

“We recently installed a Komori Lithrone S40 eight-color sheetfed press and a Komori System 38S six-color heatset web press with combination folder, pattern perforator and glue unit,” says David Klaiss, President and Chief Operating Officer of CGI North America. “There were several factors behind the decision to invest in these presses. We’re expanding our capability to produce high quality commercial printing and at the same time bringing our clients the latest in color reproduction technology.”

Installation, setup and service were key factors in CGI’s confidence in Komori’s capabilities. “This has been a major project for us”, stated Yiannis Lykogiannis, Senior Vice President Manufacturing for CGI, “and Komori has given us excellent service and support throughout, from initial on-site survey to commissioning and training”.

“By increasing our capacity and offering eight-color capabilities, we will be more competitive in the market place and will attract new business.” Klaiss adds. “The sheetfed press was up and running in March, and the web started up in April. They are operating beyond our expectations, and we are already seeing new business due to the capabilities of these presses.”
